Pirated Stuff in Laptop and PSP while Going to Canada, will I be caught?
Hi all, I'm going to Canada next month on a student visa, Ontario to be exact, from Malaysia and transiting at Abu Dhabi airport, of Chinese descent and I'll be bringing laptops and PSP along with me. The thing is, I have dozens of pirated software, games, movies and songs in my laptop; and pirated games n music in my PSP, all downloaded since ages ago. The thing is, do all customs officers check laptops n PSPs every time? or they randomly check when they like it? if I do not delete them, and they checked and find out, will I be getting a hefty fine? I have heard bad stories of people getting fined heavily for pirated software in their laptop while getting through US customs. But that is US, not Canada. The other worry is at transit, am I also subjected to customs checks at the transit airport also (in this case, Abu Dhabi)? And then what about whipping out the laptop or PSP on the plane and playing the pirated stuff onboard the plane? is that allowed? if they (stewardess or the passenger beside me) happen to know I am playing pirated stuff, am I in deep trouble as well? whoever has been through all these or can contribute, please help! I'm having sleepless nights over this because I'm joining such a wonderful country soon and I don't want the experience to be ruined immediately. Thanks in advance!! ^_^

Answer 1 :
They won't check for any pirated software or such, there shouldn't be any problem. Besides, copyright infringement requires the owner to sue you, the police and/or customs don't get involved at all.
Answer 2 :
Canada stopped caring about piracy years ago. As long as you don't upload, they don't give a shit.
Answer 3 :
As long as there's no illegal porn on your computer, they probably won't take issue, if they check at all. They have bigger fish to go after.
Answer 4 :
You do realize that you just confessed to committing multiple crimes. Contrary to popular belief, law enforcement agencies do monitor sites like Yahoo Answers.
Answer 5 :
OK. Wow. I would have just asked if they check laptops and PSPs... not included the whole piracy thing. Super smarticle and good luck
