Answer 1 :
Download the laptop price list at lowyat.net Dell also sells the cheapest laptops, buy direct from dell.com.my If you are looking for second hand, look at lelong.com.my I'm afraid getting free laptops legally is near-impossible. If you are a student, and you have a student loan or scholarship, talk to your financer to add in some budget for you to buy a laptop. Usually most student loans packages have this option available.
Answer 2 :
hi. try go to lawyat plaza or imbi plaza.. survey the price there 1st before making any purchase

Is the desktop or the laptop you bought in America made in America

Is the desktop or the laptop you bought in America made in America?
I just bought my DELL laptop. It is said "made in Malaysia". Where is your desktop or laptop made? THank you.
Laptops & Notebooks - 1 Answers

Answer 1 :
It doesn't matter where its made, there are quality assurances that make sure that there is a minimum standard of quality being maintained, regardless of where the laptop is made in. Besides, you should also know that laptops are comprised of many parts, and a significant portion of your laptop is made in China (who produces motherboards, power supplies, chassis), Japan (who makes laser diodes in DVD drives, LCD panels, and capacitors / other bits of electronics) and Malaysia (Intel has it's main CPU production facilities here)

China Made or assembled laptops...Quality poor

China Made or assembled laptops...Quality poor?
I was checking for laptop, In the middle of different brands of laptops I saw Fujitsu brand on which the sealer posted in Bold "MADE IN JAPAN" I was impressed. Though the specification is older than the other brands it costs higher. I asked, they said this is made of real material unlike those brands made or assembled in China. By the way in Malaysia (I am in Malaysia) you can find all kinds of brands, Toshiba, HP, etc even Apple & Sony Vaio but majority including apple & Sony are either made or assembled in China. Once I bought Toshiba satellite L100 (China) but after a month I sent it for service...CD room died, the body started to rest...I sold it with lose of 1000RM (~300US$). It that my bad luck or really it is true that China made products are poor in quality?
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Not all made or assembled in china are of poor quality. most of the items are being assembled there because of the low cost of labor which in turn will add cost to the selling price of the product. Just make sure that the emblem of the product and the parts are of the guaranteed quality of the brand. because a lot of imitation are also coming from china.
Answer 2 :
Not all China assembled product is poor in quality. It depends on the brand. The quality of the components is the core of the quality of any product. The assemble skill can be developed and learned. The price of cheap components makes the finish product cheap.Whatever is cheap but have the same spec of the expensive one must lorwer in quality. If you looking for high quality product, you should look for brands like Panasonic, Sony, HP/Compaq, Dell or Acer p/s I am a Malaysian.
Answer 3 :
not everything made in china is bad. if its from a big company, they have strict production regulations. it means those made in china will be as good as those made anywhere else. fyi, the third biggest laptop company, Lenovo, makers of the ever durable Thinkpad laptops, is a Chinese company.
Answer 4 :
Hi! I've lived in China for 10 years now, both in large cities, smaller towns and even a village where I was the first foreigner to ever live there. In general, I have never bought anything here--from which was as well made or as good quality as is generally available in the States. DVD players, TVs and washing machines break within a year. Mops and brooms snap in half. The soles fall off the shoes and the zippers on the jeans never work. Only the very fluent and very brave would dare to remodel their homes, because unless you know everything yourself there is no way to avoid being taken for a ride by the workmen--find used wiring from some torn down building being substituted for the "highest quality" wiring you paid for, and so on.For those of us who live here, it is simply understood that nothing here is of good quality, and if you truly need something good quality you buy it from the import shops or get it from home. Add to that the fact that corruption is rampant. All the problems with toys and things that have come up in the US are only the tip of the iceburg here. In fact, we have rejoiced that you all in the States have had these problems, because if anything will make the Chinese improve their standards and safety, it can only be the issue of "saving face." Just last year, here, to give you some examples, they found that 35% of the products on shelves were substandard in some way, and 14% of all products labeled "organic" were contaminated with pesticides. Noodles were pulled from the shelves because they were being bleached with a toxic chemical to make them whiter. A ring of "moonshiners" were taking empty name-brand liquor bottles (such as Jim Bean and Absolut), filling them with their own homemade brew--that was making people ill--and selling them for full price. The major grocery stores in big cities are finally fairly free of cheap ripped-off products, but you can still find them in any corner shop and on the street. You can even find rip--offs of the rip-offs! For you in the States, then, the question you have to ask yourself is what American or other "foreigner" company is overseeing the production of things assembled or made in China. This is more important than the label "Made in China." If the standards from the US side are careful, then the Chinese can't get away with the stuff they get away with here. If those standards are lax, you can be sure corners were cut and things were put together in as slipshod a manner as they can get away with. That is just the way things are here. The culture and government do nothing to reward honesty, and nothing WHATEVER can be done without "relationships." If corners aren't cut, many people can't possibly afford to stay in business. If I were you, I'd get my electronics from somewhere else

Is this what the Africans and Nigerians doing now in Malaysia

Is this what the Africans and Nigerians doing now in Malaysia?
I read the following article published in the malaysian Star paper:- Is this what the Africans and Nigerians doing now in Malaysia? KUALA LUMPUR: The Black Money scam, also known as the Nigerian 419 scam, was reported by Interpol to have surfaced in Malaysia in 1998. (419 refers to a section of a Nigerian law that deals with fraud.) Most of these con artists enter the country on a social visit pass which allows them to stay up to 30 days. They tend to enrol in local colleges, some even reputable ones, just to obtain student visas so that they could extend their stay here. These so-called students are believed to pay off college staff to mark their attendance. They would then send out random emails and SMS, promising huge piles of money. Usually a “processing fee” is required in advance from their targets. In some of the cases, the victim lost big amounts of money without realising it until the fraudster goes missing. They are such smooth operators that a number of victims took loans from Ah Longs to pay them. In the Black Money scam, victims are told about a stash of bank notes which had been dyed black to avoid Customs detection. The money was supposedly kept in a safe somewhere and the victim should purchase a type of chemical to wash off the dye which would then unveil “genuine” US dollars. The victim would be promised a share of the money. The supposed origin of the riches varied with each new victim. The most popular version is that the money is the lost fortunes of former Nigerian dictator General Abacha which need to be transported out of Nigeria without the Customs knowing it. Commercial Crime Investigation Department director Comm Datuk Koh Hong Sun said the con men, upon meeting their target, would produce a small vial of washing liquid called “Universal Automatic Washer” and ask the victim to select any black bank note at random. The black banknote would be washed but with a sleight of hand, the con man would substitute it with a real note. Victims are given the “washed” bank notes and are encouraged to verify their authenticity at a money changer. “They would ask the victim to buy the chemical in order to process more money and that the costs of the chemicals are very high,” he said. These con artists modus operandi of “layering,” where a different person is sent to each meeting with the victim. According to sources, places like Puchong Prima, a hotel in Ampang and several areas in Kepong are regular meeting spots for such transactions. Using laptops along with a special software, the con men are also able to forge government documents. Comm Koh, who confirmed this, said that raids on the “students’ residence” found no textbooks but merely computers and laptops. In a raid conducted by the police recently, police arrested 29 Nigerians at their office at Metro Prima in Kepong. All those arrested claimed that they were undergraduates in the Klang Valley, showing their student cards instead of passports. A check by The Star showed that some colleges here had about 70% African students. These places provide hassle-free enrolment for foreign students who pay application fees ranging from US$170 to US$330. Investigations also revealed that these so- called students did not have a clear financial source, yet they had no problems paying tuition fees and sending money home to their countries. In fact, some of them live in posh condominiums and drive luxury cars like the BMW X5. They are also known to use local women to carry out their deception, targeting single mothers or college students and using their bank accounts to conduct their shady business. Some of them, when caught by police, would falsely claim to be Muslims and recite verses from the Quran to gain sympathy, said sources. Most of these con artists are deported to their home countries as authorities usually lack evidence to charge them. However, a number of them would return to Malaysia under different passports. Comm Koh said the authorities were using biometric systems as a measure against such the conmen to prevent them from returning. “But as long as there are Malaysians who are fuelled by greed, there will be someone to take advantage of them,” he said.

Oh yeah,,,, and this make me wonder what our law enforcement units are doing, close 1 eye huh? wait until so many Malay girls kena raped, then they will start pointing their fingers here and there...
Answer 6 :
This is not something new. It has been going on for many years already and the Africans are carrying out these activities not only in Malaysia but in other countries as well especially in Asian countries. However lately Malaysia seems to be their favorite destination because of the ease to obtain visas ( due to bribery ) and many greedy Malaysian who believe them to earn quick bucks. Sometimes i don't blame the Africans but the victims for their greed.
Answer 7 :
yesi think so
Answer 8 :
Sorry ! i really cant do any things about this matter. sorry. i understand you.. next election..soon..VOTE for me. if i become PM. i will BAN all of them to enter Malaysia.
Answer 9 :
i don't think that this is the case with all nigerians. i think that some of them are in malaysia because they truly want to learn. you cannot lump a whole race base on something that several people of a certain race have done. there are some koreans in canada and the united states who work under student visas, and they don't even go to school. there was one chinese man who attempted to kidnap his landlord's daughter for money, but ended up killing her by accident. that doesn't mean that the entire chinese and korean race is doing the same thing.
Answer 10 :
i agree some of them they do. But it does not mean that all of them are doing such thing. This is what people are mistakenly think sometimes. They do judgement easily. Some of african are even good persons. Some are really came here to continue school, for example is my friend, he is from nigeria, and 3 of them in school are in top 10 student. I seldom saw him gave even 5rm or 10rm to beggars that sometimes the fellow malaysian or chinese other race dont give. Some of them also are looking for a decent work but because of some racist minded people, they dont give them work even they are qualified enough! Example is that my friend am talking about, one of his professor in school recommend 3 of them to work in hotel, and they do a very good job and work really hard that their other colleague cant do the same as they do. And most of people like them their because they really work hard, but because of wrong mindset some people dont like them to stay and fired them from work. This is true and really happening. And not just african do this kind of bad business... some races too are even more have bad business. And some people are even more worst in attitude than them. Some malaysian, chinese, indians, that are local here are also participate in this kind of wrong doing to earn big money. All country has its own monkey

As long as you are not attempting to log both copies of the game online at the same time, you will be fine. It allows for multiple loads to your same computer or different computers. The manufacturers can not keep you from being able to load the game on multiple computers. As far as we know, your first computer with it loaded broke and you bought another. So you then loaded the game onto that computer. However, attempting to bring both games online at the same time will result in problems as they are using the same CD key, which is used for authentication rights online. Hope this helps

As foreign student in Malaysia,How can I have credit card?how should apply?need it 2 buy laptop by installment

Answer 1 :
Don't think you could... even profession expatriates are having difficulty in getting a credit card in Malaysia, as a student from a foreign country.... I don't think you'd be able to get one. So, if you need to buy a laptop... only way is buy one with cash.... so start saving up now.
Answer 2 :
As a foreigner and a student, it would be quite impossible to apply for a credit card in Malaysia. Some banks do issue credit card if you deposit a sum example RM5000.00 to their fixed deposit account and a credit card with RM5000.00 credit limit will be issued. I do not know whether this applies to foreigners or not, you can try.
Answer 3 :
I personally think it's impossible. I'm a local student and I can't get a credit card too. A few years ago Alliance Bank did offer credit cards with limits of RM1000. But it's no longer available. Try looking up for shark loans if you're really desperate (not recommended!). Try going to Low Yat Plaza and ask the guys over there. If they any of them accepts debit cards, go apply for one. Debit cards are possible for you to have, I have 4.. Lastly, I would suggest you to see a friend and tell your urge to get a laptop, maybe he would buy it for you ( cash or credit card) and you'll have to pay back to him by installments. Good Luck!
Answer 4 :
You gotto check with the bank. Maybe you can apply one in your own country and use it here. I'm not sure about that. But DON'T ever go to loan shark.
Answer 5 :
not possible at all. u can apply for debit cd but its no allowed for installment payment. all u can do deposit some amount into a local bank's FD, then fledge your FD get a card.
Answer 6 :
ask your dad/mom sub one for you

This isn't the best option for everyone but I'll go with fixing it yourself. I currently own a HP laptop, I have changed the LCD screen, hard drive, replaced a damaged processor, and the optical drive myself. There are few sites that can teach you how. Fixing it on your own tends to be cheaper too. If you don't like this option, try contacting Dell.
Answer 2 :
The repair will be anounced after much planning by the rocks.

Try to get it by entering DELL into your search engine such as google or yahoo search. If that doesn't give it to you be specific and type 'Dell repair in Malaysia' into the search bar

What's the best way to recharge my iPod while traveling in Asia

What's the best way to recharge my iPod while traveling in Asia?
I will be traveling for 2 months. I will only have access to internet cafe computers on an unpredictable basis, so charging from a computer using my USB cable is a little impractical. I will be in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Singapore, so getting outlet adaptors for all those countries also seems impractical. Also, do iPods adjust for different voltage automatically the way new laptops do, or would I need to get a voltage adaptor too? I'd especially like to hear from people who have actually used an iPod on a long-term trip through Southeast Asia.

If you have a car u can buy aDC to AC convertor & charge it in the car. If you have a lighter adapter already u can use that instead.
Answer 2 :
I went to Singapore and Malaysia last year. I brought my video iPod with me and also a USB power adapter. Didn't have any problem charging the iPod with it at the hotels, so I don't think you'll need a voltage adaptor either. And most hotels these days can provide you with outlet adaptors, assuming you'll be staying at the hotels. If not, then, yeah, you just have to bring outlet adaptors with you

Answer 1 :
I know your pain, been there 1. I pack the laptop in a box that will fit it nicely, then I put it in a larger box with packing foam/peanuts really squeezed in there. 2. Just take it to DHL and you're done, they'll weigh it, price and label it. 3. I actually worked for DHL at one time ...I don't like them, but that just my opinion. 4. As fast as you want it to be 5. 50 for the cheapest, I think up to 2 weeks. Hope this helps.
Answer 2 :
Sell your laptop and buy a new one here! Postage is not worth it, and you can find lots of laptops for $800.00. DUAL CORE!
Answer 3 :
Gia, SInce you must be moving your used laptop - let me tell you a couple of things - Old Laptops would cost you lesser if you sold in in KL and bought a used laptop inthe US. Shipping by DHL would take just 48 hrs from KL to most major cities in the US - if you can pay $120-150 (am assuming your packing will take the weight up to 3 kgs) Please pack it in bubble wrap and then have some styrofoam as well You can call up DHL or go to their website to get their numbers. they'll come to your place n pick it up. Yeah, it is safe - and you can get it insured as well

What causes Windows Vista Home Premium's Windows Media Player to have playback problems

What causes Windows Vista Home Premium's Windows Media Player to have playback problems?
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop from Dell Malaysia in April 07. Whenever I switch to a different song e.g. Jingle Bells to We Wish You a Merry Christmas, it takes about one minute to change. Also, if I have a playlist of two songs e.g. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Frosty the Snowman, the transition from one song to another is very poor. The song becomes very choppy during the ending of the song. What's the problem?
Software - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
All versions of Vista use WMP 11. From your description of the problem it seems like your computer might be on the low end of memory. According to Dell, the 6400 usually ships with 512MB RAM (click on Tech Specs tab): http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_6400 But according to just about every review of Vista, a computer needs at least 2GB RAM for best performance. (Microsoft says it will run with 512MB but even they recommend at least 1GB. And most Windows users double the Microsoft recommended RAM. http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9011523 http://www.support4vista.com/faq/recommended-ram-vista.htm The rule of thumb when using any Windows operating system is "the more RAM the better things work." Especially with audio and video. When you want to play a song or movie, it's being stored (buffered) in your RAM. If all of the song can be buffered in RAM, the playback is smooth and seamless. If all of the first song and part of the next song can be stored, the transition will be smooth and seamless. But if only part of the song is stored there may be a choppy effect while more of the song is transferred into the RAM or to wait while the second song goes into RAM. And that's the same reason why videos might seem to flicker during playback. I would almost bet your computer is short on RAM. But if you have 1GB RAM or more installed, you might want to go through these FAQs: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/faq/default.mspx wwbgd

Laptops themselves are the parts that make it region free but its the DVD-Drive which it has that is region free or not. Most of the time there are ways to make the drive region free but you'll need to know what type of drive is inside the laptop first. After finding out the drive ur best of doing a quick google to check

Simply go to your local employment office and tell them you want to get an Ipod or a laptop. They will give you an application. You fill it out, hand it in and they will call you. When they call you and tell you to be somewhere, you do so. At the end of the week you will get a check. You take this check to the bank and cash it. Then go to the store and pick up your laptop or Ipod. Too easy

Shopping tips in Malaysia & Singapore

Shopping tips in Malaysia & Singapore?
I'm going to Malaysia in time for the Malaysia Mega Sale & I'll also be in Singapore too. I want to know where its much cheaper to buy a laptop? I'll be there for a limited time only so I need to get tips. Do I get a rebate if I arrive & leave from Malaysia when I buy something from Singapore? Does Malaysian government give rebates to tourist when they buy things in Malaysia? Can you guys give me an estimated price on good laptops with great specifications? I want to get a good bargain. Where do you guys think its cheaper to buy a laptop? Malaysia or Singapore? Should I decided to buy a laptop in Singapore, do I get a rebate at the bus station for KL since my return flight is in Malaysia. Do PC/ Laptop stores in Malaysia & Singapore credible? Could you give me stores with great price & won't scam with with faulty laptops? Thanks

Answer 1 :
Computer stuff you can get bargains at Low Yat Plaza around Bukit Bintang area. You can survey the prices over there, cos all the shops will be selling roughly the same stuff. Many shops will have advertised some of their products, so as long as you do your homework, you wont be cheated. Alternatively, you can search through Dell website to find a good bargain. Prices are also here for comparison. If you are patient, you'll wait for the PIKOM PC Fair. Excellent bargains for computers during that time. Unfortunately, I dont think you can get any rebate from Malaysia. Things are practically very cheap as it is.
Answer 2 :
I always buy computer and other stuff at Low Yat...My dad likes there...lot of stuff and good bargain..like the girl at the top said....you can't get rebate in Malaysia coz the price are very cheap.

Answer 3 :
As a student, you are unlikely to get a loan, unless your college/university provides it .... Loans have to be repaid, with interest. For buying computers, ACER offers no-interest monthly payments - in your case, 12 X RM250.00. If you can afford that, buy an ACER ! An ACER laptop costs less than RM3,000. You can probably get one at RM1,899....RM2,399....or RM7,999. And pay monthly over 12 months.....so you onlyhave to pay som RM160.00 per month....Go to an ACER supplier .... http://www.acer.com.my

You must spend your money for the best brand. As I know HP and Dell are the best in laptops for a long time and they are very reliable too. I trusted HP and I bought a HP laptop 2 years before, and still like the day I bought it. Didn't even have to service it at least once up to now. I recommend you to buy a HP (with experience) or Dell laptop. On www.hp.com you can even customize your laptop. And also you can check the price

Visiting Malaysia in early June. I wud like 2 buy some Electronic goods (Camera, Laptop, etc.) Suggestions ?
I would enter Malaysia by bus and exit from an airport. Is there an option to redeem GST (local taxes) at the airport similar to other countries? In countries like Singapore, the GST can be claimed on counters at the airport. This way, tourists can get stuff cheaper by 5-7%
Malaysia - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Low Yatt Plaza at BB Walk.. every of electronic gadget is there..
Answer 2 :
There are plenty but don't expect them to be 100% legit unless you're willing to pay extra. Some of them are so cheap don't even bother with the tax! But always bring a local friend with you or you'll end up paying at least twice as much. Places are: Low Yat Plaza, 4/5th floor, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur Medium range prices, reasonably good stuff There's also another IT mall quite close to this one, behind another mall (yes ANOTHER MALL) called Sungei Wang which also has an IT Mall of it's own. I can't remember what it's called but it offers all the cloned and cheaper stuff-be careful in this area. Digimall (I think), Section 14, Petaling Jaya, Selangor Located in the suburbs, and worth a look. Sells laptops and PC stuff Cybermall, Mid Valley Mega Mall, Mid Valley, Kuala Lumpur Right at the back on the 2nd/3rd floor, this is where most of the legit but pricey stuff will be. Sunway Pyramid, Selangor It's a place worth a look just for the shopping mall itself, cos it's in the shape of an Sphynx. The IT section is on the top floor, just ask around. This is just IT stuff but they usually have cameras and phones. And the IT sections I've just mentioned are MASSIVE..at least two floors worth!
Answer 3 :
you can also go to Sunway Piramid. Lots of good choices. However, there are no tax charges on item like that because it's already been absorbed in the product price. GST can only be clearly seen on hotel, certain restaurant and hospital bills. I don't think you can redeem those charges at the airport.
Answer 4 :
No vat refunds in Malaysia. Visit Low Yat plaza, Suriya KLCC and Ampang Park shopping complex. You can bargain a little at Ampang Park
Answer 5 :
Low Yatt Plaza at Bukit Bintang is great. But you better bring a local to do the talking for you or they will give you the special 'mat saleh' prices. They are as rasist as hell

Like most things now, they are made in "All the Above". They may have parts from 20 countries, and assembled in the US. Some mfr will list the countries where most of the parts are made, and where assembled. But to confuse things, just like car manufacturers, different models have different country percentages. Sorry, no firm answer on this one.
Answer 2 :
You're right on Malaysia and China. But not that many laptops are made in the U.S. anymore. The U.S. is where the company headquarters are, not the manufacturing company
