Company rejects my Laptop Warranty with NO solid evidence, what can i do to fight
Company rejects my Laptop Warranty with NO solid evidence, what can i do to fight?
Hi All, I am from Malaysia. Cutting the story short. I have recently sent my @cer Laptop to the service centre due to unable to switch on. They have told me that my motherboard had burn marks on it, and they assumed it was caused by Lightning Strike or Power Surge, which is Under section B and clause 1.9 of the @cer Warranty Booklet. @cer do not covered any damage which is caused by natural disaster or Acts of God. They have sent me a report. Here is what they've said: Model: @cer Aspire AS4736G-654G32MN Serial Number: LXPG30X001928040E81601 CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6600 RAM: 4gb ddr2 Graphic Card: Nvidia Geforce 512mb vram Reported Problem Symptom: SF45 - CAN'T POWER ON SYSTEM Diagnosis Report 1. During the diagnostic stage, the system was detected no display and auto off by itself. 2. Disassembled the notebook, found capacitor/resistor was damaged and burn mark around the area Due to the damage components and burn area are located after and directly joint to the RJ45 connector. Under this condition, we can conclude that the damage was caused by external factor and mostly it̢۪s from the high voltage surge through the RJ45 connector. Under section B and clause 1.9 of the @cer Warranty Booklet. @cer do not covered any damage which is caused by natural disaster or Acts of God. I am an NGO worker and using my Laptop as an educational material to teach people with learning disability and also to raise awareness in schools and public. I was asked to pay RM700 (which is a lot) to replace it. But i have denied and demanded more evidence. They suggested to me to send it to Taiwan for experts to check on it but all the expenses will be paid by me. Again, i denied. The case is pending. I am gathering materials to support my case in Tribunal for Consumer Rights. What can i do to fight? Any specific procedures the Service Center/technician must do to tell whether it is caused by Lightning strike/power surge? Or are they just doing a basic check-up, thus guessing the problem? Is this even possible? Please i need your help. PS: I DID NOT turn on my Laptop on that day. Morning was working fine but when came back from work, Laptop couldn't start anymore. It was not plugged in and it was in my bag in the house. I am using a 3-plugged extension socket (for Modem, @cer Laptop Adapter and Handphone Charger). Socket is perfectly fine as well as the others. As i remember it correctly, it was a clear evening weather. Thank You Fendi

There is no one set of specs that you need, but I'll give it a try. You'll still need a graphics card, if only a 256mb (discrete! never ever "shared" or "integrated"). Don't worry about the hard drive size, just the rpms- most are 5400rpm, but try to find a 7200 rpm. If you need extra storage (and laptops today have plenty for all your programs), get an external drive. You didn't say if portability and weight were issues, so I'll compromise and recommend a 15.6 screen and no more that 5 pounds (about 2 kilos, I think). Don't settle for less than 3 gigs of RAM, at least 4 if it's a Windows 64bit OS. And a dvd drive and as many usb ports as possible (at least 3) are good too. Aside from specs, the rest is design and cost, which you didn't indicate a preference on. I hope this helps.
